RWI UK
ORT

RWI by Oxford is the most sought-after integrated English literacy programme in the UK. Based on synthetic phonics, the programme teaches children aged 4 and above listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, helping them learn English more effectively.

RWI by Oxford Methodology

Build up a language foundation with 44 pure sounds
The programme familiarizes children with the 44 pure sounds and teaches them the skills of sounds blending and segmenting, in order to build a solid foundation of English pronunciation
Each pure sound is represented with a letter and/or a particular group of letters such as ‘a’, ‘i’, ‘ch’, ‘th’ and ‘se’. By blending these pure sounds, children will be able to pronounce English words correctly. Once your child has mastered the 44 pure sounds and the skills of how to blend and segment them, he/she will be able to spell and pronounce English words at speed, accurately and without difficulty

Step 2

After learning the skills of blending and segmenting, children will be able to apply the phonic knowledge to reading and spelling. To be able to decode and thus read a word will, in turn, stimulate an interest in the meaning of it. At this stage, we will focus on reading and comprehension skills. Children acquire new words and concepts by reading more books, which broadens their vision and inspires thinking.

Step 3

Comprehension comes once children have become confident readers. We then focus on developing writing skills step by step, from short sentences to guided compositions to creative writing. The writing activities linked to the texts allow children to use a wide vocabulary they learnt and further brush up their skills in language usage.
